Dr h.c. Niels M. and Mary L. Winther Establish PGSF Endowed Scholarship

PGSF scholarship endowmentDecember 6, 2025 (Pittsburgh, PA) – The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) is pleased to announce that Dr h.c. Niels M. and Mary L. Winther have established a new PGSF scholarship endowment to support students pursuing studies in Graphic Arts.  

Dr. Winther has been a lifelong supporter of the graphic arts industry. Over the years, Dr. Winther has received numerous honors, including induction into the RIT/Printing Impression Printing Industry Hall of Fame, the NAPL Soderstrom Society, the Ben Franklin Society, and an Honorary Doctorate of Business and Industry from Ferris State University.  

In addition to these achievements, Niels has served on the PGSF Board for over nine years, chairing the Finance Committee for much of that time. Niels recently retired as Chairman of the Board and owner of Think Patented in Miamisburg, Ohio. Previously, he served as President and CEO of Heidelberg USA. 

“This PGSF scholarship endowment will help expand educational opportunities for aspiring graphic arts students, making it possible for more talented individuals to pursue their passion and contribute to the future of the industry,” said Niels. “We are so pleased that Mary and Niels have created this endowment with PGSF at the Print Heritage level,” said Jules Van Sant, Chair of PGSF. 

The PGSF Scholarship application process is now open, and students are encouraged to apply online at https://www.pgsf.org/scholarship-application. Scholarships are open to both Full and Part-time students. Applications are evaluated in June, with scholarships awarded in August. Scholarships will automatically renew for students maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
