Halvorsen Family Scholarship Endowment40-Year Pressman Memorialized with Endowment for Students Pursuing a Career in Graphic Communications

Pittsburgh, PA —  The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) announces the Halvorsen family has funded a new endowment scholarship in honor of industry veteran Allen Halvorsen of Wisconsin. His wife, Jean E. Halvorsen, chose PGSF to memorialize her late husband, who was a longtime member of the printing industry.

Allen Halvorsen started his career as a newspaper delivery boy in Wisconsin to help his mom meet their financial needs. He quickly moved on from delivering the papers to printing them at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a daily morning broadsheet printed in Milwaukee, WI. The Journal Sentinel is the city’s primary newspaper, with the largest distribution in the state of Wisconsin — more than 153,000. Halvorsen was a pressman at the Journal Sentinel and retired after 40 years.

“Providing for the future of the printing industry will require talent. With education getting so expensive, I knew we should help students with some of their tuition,” comments Jean Halvorsen.

The Allen Halvorsen Scholarship was endowed for PGSF at the Print Heritage level ($25,000) and will be recognized in the PGSF Endowment Book. The Halvorsen endowment is dedicated to students who are following a career in graphic communications within the state of Wisconsin. Applicants can apply at www.pgsf.org when the 2022 scholarship process kicks off in November.
